Description

The Flamingo Lodge and Visitor Center have been a part of the park since I first visited in the early 70s. The architecture of both was referred to as Mission 66 with Modern Miami elements and they were distinctive also by being pink. Both were damaged by Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and in 2017 Hurricane Irma further damaged the visitor center and destroyed the lodge. The visitor center was renovated and the lodge replaced by a new updated structure on stilts. The lodge is modern and bright and the visitor center (we love visiting visitor centers) still reflects its original style and pink color.
